Synopsis
- Tenebrous descends on the planet
- Imperial Guard takes to the planet, evacuation protocol only, it should be clearly established that the Shi'Ar empire considers these people an impossible and unwinnable conflict scenario without some sort of abstract interference.
- Establish a gravity mcguffin that when activated will make it impossible to escape, ticking clock, reference DnA Nova maybe for tech speak.
- The world should be chaos, people should be violent unruly etc. Either give the devourer a totally emotionless herald that some of the guard can be taken out by, or create scenarios in which some of them can be sidelined.
- During this Kid Gladiator should also be humbled massively.
- The Shi'ar loyalist should be priotizing important Shi'ar diplomats noble families etc, and be advising caution and early retreat , while Cannonball and others should be trying to hold out as long as possible to same the most people.
- The ticking time bomb has to go off, everyone has to flee, Sam has to be stuck behind saving Kid Gladiator. They're in an impossible situation, the gravity field around the planet has begun to intensify yadda yadda science stuff, no one short of a cosmic herald or being should be able to escape, its impossible.
- 'Impossible is a matter of perspective' is a thing Sam should say, and Kid Gladiator should recognizze from his father also saying, but not believe in or internalize it.
- Sam basically carries the defeated and hopeless Kid Gladiator, pushing seemingly in flutily trying to escape the planets field, and get them to safety. It's impossible. It can't be done. They're doomed, Kid Gladiator knows it, why can't this earther flight teacher just accept it. Sam keeps pushing. The planet cominues dying and exploding. The Imperial guard look on in horror, desparately hoping Sam will break free.
- Sam struggles, big dramatic thing, against all odds it seems like he's maybe almost there, but he knows he can't do it, he can't push through not with Kid Gladiator as well. Sam thinks of his son... and he thinks of Gladiator trusting his son with him, Sam thinks of his father and responsibility, Sam takes the limp Kid Gladiator, and lifts him over head, pushing up and just through the gravity field, Kid Gladiator escapes and in shock floats limply into space where the Imperials go to rescue him. Sam's blastin' gives up, and we see him slowly begin to fall back towards the doomed planet ''Berto, you better be a good god father'.
- Izzy starts to go after Sam but stops, realizing their son can't lose both of them.
- Kid Gladiator looks down as Sam falls. We cut this with Flashbacks.
- We get Gladiator telling Kubark about how brave and impressive a warrior Sam is, 'The terran who taught flying into things at my school? I don't see it'.
- Sam is falling
- Sam and Kubark talking about responsbility, Sam talks about his father, and how fathers care for their sons, and how he knows Gladiator cares for his son etc.
- Sam is falling
- Kubark watching Sam play with and raise his son
- Sam is falling
- Kubark remembering Sam trying to tell him what his father always said 'Impossible is a matter of perspective'. You can do anything.
- Kubark flies past Izzy and the others, and RE-ENTERS the planets field, diving down and grabbing sam. And with his new confidence flies them both out.
